All members of a rescue team.

Course objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to carry out basic rope rescues using a methodical, structured approach in accordance with Chapter 5 of the NFPA 1006 competency standard. This course is also a prerequisite for all 1006 specializations. Course content includes:

  • Principles of incident scene assessment
  • Principles of incident management
  • Victim search and rescue techniques
  • Equipment maintenance techniques
  • Knot techniques
  • Principles of simple anchoring systems
  • Mechanical advantage design
  • Principles of descent systems
  • Principles of self-belay and safety systems
