All employees who are required to inspect fall protection equipment in the workplace.
There are no prerequisites for this training.

Description

Upon completing this training, the candidate will be able to apply inspection techniques to fall protection equipment and lifesaving equipment. This training is based on RRST c. S-2.1, r.13, LSST c. S-2.1, CSTC c. S-2.1, r.4, ASP, APSAM, Académie des pompiers, and Working at Heights laws and standards.

Content

  • Legal framework and definitions
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Types of slings
  • Eliminating and managing risks related to slinging
  • Steps for a safe sling inspection
  • Types of inspections
  • Inspecting slinging accessories like shackles, hooks, eye bolts, etc.
  • Handling retrieval equipment: SKED, half-back and sit harness, stretcher, pole
  • Handling lifesaving equipment: carabiners, ascenders/descenders, harnesses
  • Handling personal protective equipment (helmet, steel toe shoes, glasses, gloves, etc.)
  • Simulating and implementing compliant inspections

Evaluation

One 25-question written exam and an assessment of working knowledge required to inspect a harness and fill out the inspection record. The required passing grade is 80%. A supplemental exam is available.
