Who is this training for?

First responders who may arrive at the scene of an incident involving hazardous goods and who will be using Emergency Response Guidebooks (CANUTEC). 
There are no prerequisites for this training.

Description

By the end of this training, the candidate will be able to quickly identify the specific or general hazards related to the good(s) in question, and to protect themselves and the general public during the initial response phase for the incident. This training is based on the standards set by the Emergency Response Guidebook (CANUTEC).

Goals

  • Understanding the hazardous materials classification system
  • Identifying the types of cabinets, railway cars, trailers, intermodal containers
  • Using yellow and blue pages
  • Using guide pages and associated risks, public safety and emergency responses
  • Using green pages, Tables 1–2 and 3
  • Identifying protective clothing
  • Explaining the technical glossary
  • Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion (BLEVE)
  • Nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical agents (CBRN)
  • Improvised Explosive Device (IED)

Evaluation

One 25-question written exam. The required passing grade is 80%. A supplemental exam is available.
