Who is this training for?

All workers who monitor hot work that may trigger a fire: handling an electric or oxy-fuel flame, grinding, thawing pipes, rebuilding, brazing, adhesive bonding, etc.

Prerequisites: Using a Fire Extinguisher

Description

By the end of this training, the candidate will be able to oversee hot work such as welding, cutting, and related processes. This training is based on CAN/CSA W117.2, NFPA 51B, LSST Section 51, RSST Sections 313 to 312, and NFCC Section 5.2 laws and standards.

Goals

  • Applying occupational health and safety rules during hot work
  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities of workers
  • Using hot work plans and permits
  • Detecting and measuring hazards (gas, heat, flame, etc.)
  • Using a communication system and triggering emergency warning procedures

Content

  • Obligations and responsibilities
  • Fire prevention
  • Types of protection: individual, thermal camera, heat detector, multi-gas detector
  • Managing miscellaneous systems, documentation, and forms

Evaluation

One 25-question written exam and an assessment of working knowledge regarding detection and measurement. The required passing grade is 80%. A supplemental exam is available.
